The Memphis Area Home Builders Association has selected The Villages at White Oak as the site of the Vesta Home Show this year.
Several companies will be building eight homes in the $275,000-$300,000 range for the event in Arlington, which will run Oct. 9 to Nov. 1.
“Vesta traditionalists will say that we’re cutting back because the houses have typically been $700,000 to $1 million,” said Don Glays, executive director of the Memphis Area Home Builders Association.
The organization is going to a lower price point this year because the homes will be constructed to green building standard approved by the National Association of Home Builders.
“In today’s market, it makes sense when building green, to start in homes that are the first- or second-time move-up homes because there are additional costs to building green,” Glays says.
The Villages at White Oak is a $24 million mixed-use project on 326 acres.
White Oak General Partnership, which includes Canale Corp., Earl Blankenship and Chamberlain & McCreery Inc., is developing the seven-phase project.
The residential component will have 700 homes when completed.
Chamberlain & McCreery, FaxonGillis Homes Inc., Regency Homebuilders and Signature Building Group are the original builders in the development.
These companies have built around 30 homes so far in phase one.
The project will be seeking four additional builders to participate in the show.
“It’s going to be exciting to have a green Vesta Home Show,” said Jon McCreery, president of Chamberlain & McCreery.
